It is a long haul to his native Los Angeles, but it is no surprise that, after being born in the San Gabriel mission hospital on the Camino Real, Spain’s climate, landscapes and architecture have made Michael feel at home for nearly two decades. California was an “island paradise” sought by early Spanish explorers, yet the similarities of their homeland with his own are striking. It somehow seems fitting that this California boy – and wine lover – would turn the tables by settling into Madrid as the Iberia producer-correspondent for a newsmagazine airing on US public television.
Stories throughout the Iberian peninsula and islands were the ideal opportunity to shoot with local crews and establish the foundation of a network that serves him to this day.
In the years that followed, new opportunities have allowed him to work with a wide array of broadcasters, production companies, corporate and institutional clients that have sent Michael out from his Spanish home-base to produce factual and commercial projects in more than a dozen countries on five continents.
When not SCUBA diving with sea lions, snacking on frankincense, witnessing live crucifixions, or dancing on the tables of Beirut nightclubs, Michael has been overcoming the many challenges of on-location work in Spain and abroad.
